MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL CANNABIS PATIENT CARD
Introduction
To obtain a Patient Card make an appointment with a Mississippi Medical Licensed Practitioner licensed for Medical Cannabis. They will review your symptoms and determine if you qualify. Often there are “patient drives” in various areas of the state that can help streamline the process. Also, doctors are located not far from most areas of the state that are licensed to issue a card and can help you apply
QUALIFYING MEDICAL CONDITION
Your medical care provider will look for a qualifying medical condition. Many people have one of these qualifying conditions which has not been diagnosed. The doctor or nurse will look for any signs or symptoms of the following:

- chronic pain
- severe or intractable nausea
- seizures
- severe and persistent muscle spasms (including, but not limited to, those characteristic of multiple sclerosis)
Or any one of the following:
cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, muscular dystrophy, glaucoma, spastic quadriplegia, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), hepatitis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, sickle-cell anemia, Alzheimer’s disease, agitation of dementia, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), autism, pain refractory to appropriate opioid management, diabetic/peripheral neuropathy, spinal cord disease or severe injury

APPLYING FOR A CARD:
- Adult Mississippi Residents
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDOH) has a checklist and procedures to apply online . Your doctor or nurse can also help you with this process.
Apply on the Mississippi State Department of Health online form using Mississippi Medical Cannabis web portal. Your certifying medical provider can usually help fill this out.
Patient drives are frequently conducted to assist you with the registration process. Usually there will be a doctor or nurse on site to certify you if you have supporting medical records or if they are able to confirm the condition. The licensed practitioner (MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Optometrist) must have registered with the Mississippi State Department of Health.. This licensed practitioner may rely on medical records from other doctors who are not registered in the Mississippi Medical Cannabis program. You can often find patient drives through Google and other web browsers. Patient drives will usually help you through the application process
- Minors
If the cardholder is under the age of eighteen (18), the Registered Qualifying Patient Identification Card may be denied or revoked if the custodial parent or legal guardian with responsibility for health care decisions doesn’t provide written consent to the patient’s use of medical cannabis, agree to serve as the patient’s designated caregiver; and control the acquisition, dosage and frequency of use of the patient’s medical cannabis. Parental or legal guardian consent is required for a minor to participate in the medical cannabis program.
- Age 18 to 23
Special rules for applicants age 18 through 25: A certification issued for individuals ages eighteen (18) through twenty-five (25) must meet the following conditions:
- The debilitating condition is confirmed by two practitioners from separate practices after an in-person consultation (this isn’t required if the person is homebound or had an identification card before the age of 18); and
- One of the practitioners must be a physician (MD/DO).
- Nonresidents
The Cannabis regulations provide for certain non-resident cards if the individual has an active identification card for the use of medical cannabis in his/her state of residence.
